The butterflies will love you. This mix gives you Butterfly Bushes in many shades of three glorious colors: white, lilac, or pink. Each is very floriferous and fragrant, and it is so easy and economical to grow this shrubby perennial from seed instead of buying plants.

From summer to fall, these plants bear huge foot-long trusses so laden with blooms that they bend outwards from the tall, well-branched 6- to 8-foot plants. Butterflies arrive in droves to sip the nectar, adding their own magnificent color to your garden. The aroma is heavenly—no wonder they are called “Summer Lilac.”

A snap to grow from seed, buddleia’s only problem is knowing when to stop. Left unpruned, it will reach 14 feet tall, but since it flowers only on new wood, you’ll want to cut it back to about 10 inches from the ground each spring before the new growth begins.

These Butterfly Bushes may even bloom the first year from seed, and they will be shooting up, lush and free-flowering, the second season and every year thereafter. What great performers for the sunny garden.
